A bit about us
I'm Hannah, owner and cheesemonger at Crosby Loves Cheese.
My first career choice was fashion-buying but I quickly realised that my love for food was something I wanted to spend more time focusing on. So I left the fashion world and attended Westminster Kingsway College in London, where I studied for a chef's diploma. While studying I landed a role as a trainee cheesemonger with Paxton & Whitfield in London's Piccadilly.
During my time at London's oldest cheese shop I took care of the royal cheese selections, regularly delivering directly to Prince Charles at St James's Palace. I also ensured that some of London's top restaurants' front-of-house teams were fully trained on all the cheeses so they could go on to share this knowledge with their diners.
Fast forward a few years, a son - Crosby - with a taste for cheese was born, a move from London to the North East happened and then the pandemic hit.
During a covid-induced spell of isolation, I wrote my business plan, came up with my business name and by the time my quarantine ended I was ready to launch my business. I met Phil the fishmonger at Phil's Plaice who said he'd help me get my business off the ground when I was ready to launch, a promise he continues to keep to this day: I host cheese pop-ups right next door to Phil's Plaice.
I also specialise in private cheese tasting events, celebration cakes and am proud to call myself an international cheese judge at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards.
